Student Affairs

Office of Student Affairs

The Student Affairs Office provides students with information about facilities, policies, services, and resources. In addition, it serves as advocate for student concerns in other areas of student life as needed. The goals of this office include building community, positively impacting the quality of student life, and helping the students to succeed and grow along their path to becoming physicians. For this purpose, the Student Affairs Officer serves as a liaison between academic services and student needs ensuring that students take full advantage of the learning experience both inside and outside the classroom. The Student Affairs Office guides and helps students with concerns regarding the process of adapting to the University and the academic program while adjusting to life in the Dominican Republic. The Office handles information regarding student housing, student visas, health insurance, mail services, and numerous academic, extracurricular and recreational activities.

Moreover, the Office of Student Affairs does a close follow-up to the students’ assistance to classes, the mentorship program, language courses, extracurricular activities, general students’ well-being, and group cohesion and student delegate coordination.

Counseling

Students that need help with personal-social situations that interfere with academic progress or their personal life may seek in the Student Affairs Office a referral to our Guidance Counselor or external counselors list, following an initial consultation with the student mentor and/or the Student Affairs Officer.

Housing Information

The Student Affairs Officer provides information about housing facilities, such as available listings, locations, and pricing. The students receive guidance regarding the various aspects that should be taken into consideration when selecting appropriate housing. Among the aspects to be considered are: services offered, cost, method of payment, and penalties in the event of early contract termination. Ultimately, the student is responsible for housing arrangements.
